Future Blooms

Keep Cincinnati Beautiful is a non profit that funds Future Blooms improving the appearance of neighborhoods. Our boarded up storefront now has windows and doors painted on them. This is a significant way to improve appearances until the real thing is installed. Thank you, Future Blooms Team and Findlay Market community, for your enthusiastic response and getting this done!

Window Fabrication

Wooden windows, frames and sashes are being fabricated by the Legacy Building Restoration shop in Tiffin, Ohio to match the historic windows.

Storefront Restoration

Here is Crown storefront in September 2012.

When removing the paint from the steel storefront surfaces, lettering from the past were revealed. We are preserving what is visable of these historic signs,
remnants of the owners names and products sold.

Interior Details

The existing staircase remains from the 2-4 floors, but was removed when the addition was built in the1970s for the boxing club on the 2nd floor.

The staircase shadow allowed us to rebuild in its original location.

Staircase rebuilt to connect to the original W Elder north entry.

Paneling removed from 1st floor uncovered stenciled walls, paint color and steel beam.

Blue flowered wallpaper located on the south wall near the storefront.

Stenciling in the first floor store which was originally a millinery.

Freight Elevator Shaft to be filled in.

Pre- Prohibition beer labels were found on the 3rd floor east wall. We plan to cover and frame it to preserve.

Staircase openings in south west side of upper floors .

Shadow of the staircase woodwork that was removed.

Exterior Paint

Masonry

Kestner Waggoner Restoration work to remove all the blue-gray paint from brick and stone facades.

Cornice & Box Gutter Work

The front box gutter was repaired where wood had rotted from water damage. North side of the building’s box gutter and cornice had been damaged in the 2008 Hurricane Ike wind storm and was removed. Wooden piers were built into brick roofline wall with framing to hold gutter and cornice.

The metal cornice was straightened or replaced where needed, riveted and soldered together. Primer and finish paint show off the historic details of the top of the Crown.

The Tri-State Premier Roofing shop fabricated new cornice parts out of galvanized steel which replicated the original historic design.

—

Each piece of galvanized steel that makes the pattern of the cornice and lines the gutter is welded at the seams. This assures longevity keeping water from getting into the gutter structure.

The steel box gutter liner is installed after the wood framing was rebuilt. Each seam is riveted and soldered together in place.
